What happened in Chapter 18:
1)His uncle took him in to his home.
2)Him and the nurse is "brother and sisters" now.
3)Him and his uncle got close it seemed.
4)He became close to Aminate and Allie than anybody in the house.
5)his uncle house has no electricity or running water.
I learned many things from reading A Long Way Gone. This book taught me
1. That young boys were forced to be in the war and kill and if they don’t they would be killed.
2. They also used cocaine to keep the child soldiers alert and ready for the war.
3. In this world nobody care about you, its survival of the fitness.
A quote I found that was meaningful was “... Because if I was to get killed upon my return, I knew that memory of my existence was alive somewhere in the world.” . . . (Page #200) This quote was meaningful because he knows that he want be unknown or forgot about when he die or when we go back to Africa somebody would know. At least he know when he is gone, somebody will remember him because he was active in him life. I picked this quote because I want to be known when I die I don’t want people to remember me for something I did for my community.
The United Nations created a document called the UN Declaration of Human Rights to try and protect the rights of people around the world. Clearly, what happened to Ishmael Beah violated #12 and #25. Article 12 is being validated because the soldiers came in to everybody village and start killing everybody for no reason and also took people as child soldiers and hostages. Article 25 also was validated because the article says that everybody is entitled to having health benefits and well being of himself and family. Since the issue of child soldiers continues today, I feel that the UN should stop immediately by using a military to should be done to help address this problem. They can just go in and supervise the solider in Serria Leona to make sure they aren’t using child soldiers. I don’t think they should start a war I just think they should just make sure child solider are not used.
